Permanent Housing Program

Opportunities Program
MESI master leases 10* one-bedroom rental units in the city of Manhattan and facilitates the placement of eligible homeless individuals with severe mental illness into the units.  MESI provides a subsidy for the rent including utilities.  The on-site Residential Counselor offers daily case management, advocacy and referral services, property management and landlord mediation, and crisis prevention and intervention to all tenants.  The tenants in the Opportunities Program require long-term subsidy and supportive services and are expected to remain through the life of the program.

*Due to the nature of MESI’s Housing Program, accommodations are highly limited, as participants stay enrolled in the program for months or years.  Individuals applying for these programs must coincide with HUD’s definition of literal homelessness and have a referral from MESI’s Client Service Director.
